About Us | History

The Center has been in operation for 29 years and our quality of our work has grown with our experience. Prior to 2010, the Center was affiliated with American Forests, a non-profit organization. In 2010, the Center became an independent operating unit and private business called the Global Ecosystem Center, LLC.

The Center has since conducted over 50 Urban Ecosystem Analyses (UEA) ranging in size from six square miles comprising one metropolitan area to over 600 square miles involving 120 municipal areas.

The Urban Ecosystem Analyses methodology has transformed the approach urban forests are measured and valued monetarily. It uses remote sensing to measure land cover, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and engineering grade models are employed to calculate ecosystem services.

For the past several years, we have become specialized in creating land cover classifications from both high-resolution and moderate-resolution (Landsat) imagery.
